Back in June around National Ocean Day, we posted a blog about Obama giving his Ocean Task Force 90 days to come up with a plan for the ocean.  Well, on September 17 they came out with an interim report that’s worth looking at.  Some highlights of the report include:

  • a proposal to establish a high-level National Ocean Council co-chaired by the President’s Council on Environmental Quality and the Office of Science and Technology Policy.
  • a detailed work plan for the Council, including calling for the development of strategic action plans to address priority issues such as ocean acidification and climate change.

So it’s baby steps to getting it done, but it sure is a solid start.

Sarah Chasis of the NRDC eloquently addresses the report in an article that appeared in the Huffington Post on September 17, 2009.
