Sushi in the news

Sustainable sushi keeps popping up in the news.  The Christian Science Monitor reported on the sushi guide we came out with in October 2008 and 2 sustainable sushi restaurants- one in San Francisco, the other in Portland, OR.

The Seattle Times also ran a story on a sushi restaurant making the switch to more sustainable species–that means no Atlantic Bluefin* or unagi (Freshwater Eel).

Ocean-friendly SushiThis is all good news, but what’s an East Coast sushi eater to do?–Or anyone who isn’t in San Fran/Portland/Seattle, for that matter.

For now, I’ll just have to stay true to my Guide to Ocean-Friendly Sushi (or FishPhone when I forget my guide at home).

The 50,000 guides we printed were hugley popular, so much so that we’ve given them all away already.  But fear not, you can still print out a copy of the sushi rankings, in addition to ettiquette and history info from two top sushi authors.  And all of our seafood and sushi rankings are just a text away when you use FishPhone.

* In other Bluefin Tuna news: Monaco is seeking a global ban on Bluefin trade through CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora).  If the ban goes through, international trade of Bluefin would be illegal, though it would still be legal to catch the Tuna and sell it in domestic markets.  Monaco’s proposal will be considered at the next CITES meeting in March 2010, so stay tuned.
